CORNELIAN CHERRY

Cornelian cherry (Cornus mas)

Plant known in Eastern Europe and Western Asia

It is a large bush or a small tree with oval crown.

Flowers grow in March and April. They are yellow and produce usually red, red-brown or yellow fruits, matures from August to October.

At first, it has a raised structure and becomes more branchy with age. The appearance and certain morphological features make that the cherry is a very decorative bush.

In Russia, Turkey and Ukraine, it is grown on industrial scale.

Its fruits contain: sugars, organic acids, mineral salts, pectins, tannins, vitamin C and P

It is the basic ingredient of a very popular and recognized licqueur.
